Meditation gives you a chance to sit with all of your emotions and process them in a healthy way. You can also just tune them all out and ground yourself in the present.
Meditation teaches you to recognize your feelings, notice them, and then accept them and move on. It’s a great way to get rid of them instead of bottling them up.

Once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll be able to do it yourself whenever your emotions start to overwhelm you.
Identify Your Feelings
In order to process your emotions and feelings, you’ll also have to learn to identify them. They’re such a big part of your life that you may not even be aware of them or be able to pinpoint why you’re feeling a certain way.
Instead of getting swept up in them though, you should take a few minutes to analyze them and figure out why you’re feeling that way.
If you’re not sure where to start, ask yourself what the inside of your body feels like. Can you pick out a certain emotion that you’re feeling? You may be able to rely on physical cues from your body to help.
You may even be able to look to external cues to identify it. Did you and your partner just break up? You may be feeling sadness, but you could also be feeling anger and frustration as well.
There are many charts online that you can find that will give you a list of all kinds of specific emotions. When you look at them, you may realize that one of them was exactly how you felt!
Find a Way to Express Your Emotions
Once you identify your feelings, you may not even know what to do with them.
Should you confront someone about them? Should you just bottle it up and move on? Do you need to express it in an artistic way?
Try and use your rational brain to figure out what would the best solution and what you should avoid. For example, if you were angry over a breakup, yelling at the person about all of your emotions probably won’t solve anything. You could also end up hurting their feelings.
Instead, you should try listening to some angry music or doing a boxing workout to get all of your aggression out.
Journaling is one of the best things for emotional regulation and processing trauma. It’s a safe and healthy way for you to get your emotions and thoughts out of your head and down onto paper.
If you have a lot of complicated feelings, thinking about them all the time can be exhausting. But you’ll be surprised how much lighter you feel when you write it all down.
For an even more satisfying effect, you should write it all on paper and then tear it or crumple it up and throw it away. This symbolic act can really help your brain realize that you’re ready to move on and deal with the next thing.
If you want to get the most out of journaling, make sure that you try and write every day. You don’t have to write for hours, but you can write for five minutes or so.
You should also write down whatever comes to your mind. Don’t stop yourself from writing anything down. Remind yourself that no one else is going to be reading it.
Talk With Someone
Lastly, make sure that you reach out to someone with whatever you’re struggling with. You might feel like you don’t want to burden people with your emotions and problems, but that only makes it harder for you to deal with them.
Most people won’t even realize that you’ve been struggling with all those emotions, and they’re going to want to help you out. Whether that’s just listening and providing comfort, or trying to give you solutions, it can always help to get it off your chest.
